A Little Birthday Card

Don’t tropical flowers shout out “Summer!” to you? They do to me!

This birthday card went together fast, because I’m in love with this tropical flower paper and all its awesome colors. I had some scrap pieces of it laying out, from I’m not sure what, and no other paper looked good to me after that.

My papercrafting projects always start with a paper pile. I especially like that name for our papercrafting category here at 2create! I narrowed down my accent color choices from my Bazzil 4″x6″ cardstock pad to the blue and orange — complementary colors are always good for visual excitement and energy!

The card itself is an olive shade that almost looks like kraft paper but it’s not. It perfectly matches the centers of some of the flowers on the paper. It was nice to find a neutral background that let those fun summer colors fly, yet still actually came from the focal paper’s color scheme.

All it took after that was a few swipes from the paper trimmer, a couple details with the pen, a little tearing (love torn edges!!!), a couple moments of trial-and-error layout for the words, and a few inches of tape runner.

I want to mention one of my favorite pens, my set of 8 basic colors of IdentiPens. It seems that no matter what I write on, this pen never smears — it’s like there’s no drying time. I like that in a craft pen! I haven’t checked, but it would be very cool if they came in more than 8 colors.

You’ll find me back at the sewing machine and in the kitchen the next few days — we just had a harvest of 6c. cilantro, AFTER the stems were discarded! I’d say it’s a southwest menu this week!
