Fall Button Tree

Not only did I have fun playing with my big stash of buttons for this project, I’m excited because This Post is our 600th post!!! I can hardly believe it! When Sam and I started our first blog about 5 years ago, I had no idea where we would go with it. All I can say is it has been an awesome (and highly educational) experience, and such a great venture to share with my oldest daughter! And I hope she feels the same LOL

And now, ta-da! My button tree! Have you seen these trendy craft-art projects before? Being a sewist first, and a bargain hunter, I have quite the bunch of buttons and love them all. Somehow, I started following Busted Button on Facebook one day and admire her cheery, colorful (and well-done) button trees. You can also find her on Pinterest, Instagram, and here’s a link to her blog’s gallery.

I’ve had a half-formed idea to make a button tree one day and today was the day. Since I also had been wanting to use some old book pages in something, I combined the two onto one canvas and I’m in love with the result!

See that brown tree? You need to know that that is one unique and custom color of brown. I had tan acrylic paint. I had black. I had lots and lots of bright colors. But not one brown in the bunch! So tan + black + pine green + cinnamon (red) = Button Tree Brown. I do love mixing custom colors! Paint, frosting, fondant… what else? I can’t think of anything else I custom mix color for, but I do love being able to get just the right shade of paint or frosting. It’s one of my color skills!

I’ve spent at least 2 hours this week searching for just the right words for this Fall Button Tree canvas. There are some lovely quotes and poems out there, but none of them quite express what I wanted to say. Most of them are written by Fall-o-holics, which I am not. But I do enjoy the beautiful colors of fall leaves and the sounds they make as they move through the season — rustling, crunching, skittering, and the sound of raking! So I made up my own short but sweet comment about leaves represented by the fall-colored buttons on my canvas.

I think I need to set up a new wall space for my three Embroidered Leaf Minis to hang alongside my Fall Button Tree. My entryway might be just the place. Oh, and it’s also time to hang my fall quilted wallhanging! I’m getting quite the collection of fall seasonal decor here… my “embrace fall” plan must be working :)

I am reserving the right to change which category on the list from our Fall 2015 Challenge that my button tree fulfills. I’m calling it art for now, but if a doodling urge comes over me before the end of September when the challenge ends, I might reclassify it as a home dec project! Just sayin’.

Happy … collage-glue-paint-button-art-ing!

  • Jolinda Mapp - I absolutely LOVE this! The combination of the book pages with the bright colored buttons really sets this off perfectly. I’m thinking I may have to make my own button tree while the kids are covering themselves in glue “making” their own creations.09.22.2017 – 10:39pmReplyCancel
