“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!”
Well, at least it was… before Christmas. ;) And even though my decorations came down today, and parts of this house have now been eaten (yummy snowmen and chimney!), I had so much fun basing this custom gingerbread house on that Christmas song. It certainly helped me get more in the Christmas-y mood this year!
Abbi even “helped” me in the kitchen when it was time to make the gingerbread! (And by helped I mean, not crying or drooling in the dough) ;)
I particularly loved the lines of the song that said “Glistening once again, with candy canes and silver lanes aglow…” and “the holly that will be, on your own front door” and “soon the bells will start…”
you can fill in the rest of the song, but you can see some of the elements I pulled directly from the song… candy canes, silver lanes, holly and bells!
Plus… I stuck with snowy scenes and reds and greens… very classic Christmas decor!
Some of my very favorite parts of my house are the chimney and roof! I loved using the nuts and frosting to make a stone/mortar type look for the chimney. And the muddy-buddy roof sprinkled with coconut and shimmer powder sure makes it look like it snowed to me!
I’m also super in love with my little sugar cone trees! Sprinkled with sugar and white and pale green pearls, topped with little bows made of rips candy.
I may be boasting a bit… but it was hard work… and I’m proud!!
Although next year… I’m thinking graham crackers might be an easier route. ;)
Have you ever designed your own gingerbread house? If not, I highly recommend trying it at least once!
