Final Bathroom Makeover Reveal!

The Big Reveal!  I’m so excited to finally tell you the whole story behind my bathroom makeover.  So here is how it went:

The first week of November my hubby left for a week to go hunting in Montana.  I had Mini Sessions for my business on Sunday and Mom came up to help me.  Sunday night the idea came into my head that I should repaint our bathroom while hubby was gone.  He’d been complaining about the paint in there and I thought it would be SO fun to surprise him with a little update when he got back.  THEN… my mind started turning… thoughts went like this…

new paint… awesome!

but i don’t want to match the paint to the ugly green and brown marbled laminate counter top…

and on that note… that sink is chipped and gross too…

maybe i can replace it…

search on lowe’s website… white counter top/sink combo for only $99… SOLD!

side conversation with mom… can dad come help me install a new counter top?

answer yes… ok, and since the counter will be removed maybe i can repaint the cabinet too…

and then paint the vanity and light fixture to match…

and repaint the decorations to match…

and get new decorations above the toilet since the art there now won’t match…

and replace the shower curtain with a lighter one so there is more light in the shower…

oh and while i’m at it i should re-caulk the tub.

oh… and since i’m repainting the cabinets the trim won’t match so i’ll need to replace that too…

text my in-laws… can you come up with your brad nailer/compressor to help me with the trim?

answer… yes.  hmmmm…

And then… I promptly talked myself out of it that night.  What was I thinking?  That is too much work for a week, by myself, even with help from my dad and in-laws.  Whew!

But after sleeping on it I somehow ended up at Lowe’s the next afternoon with a counter top/sink combo in the back of my subaru…

In the end I’m so glad that I ended up at Lowe’s with that counter/sink combo!  It looks AMAZING!  SO much better than the outdated one from before!  Oh… and for paint… go to Sherwin-Williams!  They rock!  Good advice and GREAT paint!  I am SO loving the pale blue with black and white accents!  Repainting the cabinets black made such a difference!  BTW… the floor is not as caved in as some of the photos show… it is just camera distortion…

All week long I told hubby I was working on a project… he thought I was scrapbooking or crocheting or something… HA.  He was SO surprised, and has told me multiple times since then that he loves how it turned out!  In fact, he said he might go away more often to see what else I might surprise him with ;)  Wishful thinking… I think this 5×8 space was a big enough project to tackle by myself!  And by myself I mean with MUCH appreciated help…

Thanks to my Dad, who helped me replace the counter top & sink and did some painting and put up with the constant heckling of my crazy dog.

Thanks to my Dad-in-law who cut and put up the trim not only in the bathroom but also around my front door which he noticed was still without it after our major house project last year.

Thanks to my Mom-in-law who helped me figure out decorations and putty’d holes and loaded my dishwasher and cleaned up some of my mess of the project.

Without them my ambitious project would have failed!  What do you think?  Like I mentioned yesterday, I may stop and stand in the hall to admire my handiwork a few times a day.  ;)

And I promise, we’ve had enough bathroom talk the last couple weeks to last us a while… tee-hee-hee ;)

Sam
