Black & Teal: Easy DIY Jewelry!

So if I haven’t said it yet, or even if I have… I LOVE TEAL!  It is my absolute favorite, especially the darker versions of the color!  I spotted the pendant for this necklace at the craft store and knew I HAD to have it!  The teal screamed at me, especially against the black!  But what was I going to do with it?  Aside from weaving some seed-bead bracelets in middle school I have never really made any jewelry… but buying this pendant meant I pretty much had to!  So I jumped into the jewelry making world, got some matching beads, chain and the findings and was off and running!

In total this project took about an hour, including all the pictures I was taking along the way… super simple and easy!

First, gather all the necessary supplies.  I used the chain, pendant, findings and matching beads from the craft store, plus a pair of needle nose pliers and wire cutters and a couple random clear beads from a kit I’ve had for forever.  Next I attached the clasp for the necklace to one end of the chain with a small ring from the findings package.

Then, I went and changed.  LOL… but seriously… I’d been helping a friend paint her nursery earlier in the day and was still in my grungy clothes.  I needed an example of what I might wear this jewelry with to make my decision about how long I wanted the necklace.  So I put on this dressier strapless number and proceeded to decide where I wanted the pendant to hang.  (I chose #3… just above the neckline of the dress.)

To finish the necklace I added another small ring where I wanted the clasp to fasten.  I then left a small amount of chain and snipped off the rest.  At the end of the chain I attached some coordinating beads for a little detail to hang down the back!

Next… onto some matching earrings!  The packet of findings I bought had a wide variety of stuff, including the starts for some earrings!  Forgive me for not knowing the proper names of some of these, but I then proceeded to use the findings that look like little flat-head pins to put some beads on in varying combinations and attached them to lengths of the leftover chain.  I made two of each so they would match of course!  Attach those chains to a little ring and the ring to the earring start and voila!  Simple dangle earrings!  You can bet — because there is teal in them — and because i love dangle earrings — that I will be wearing these on more occasions than just with the necklace!

Yes, I resorted to photos of myself in the bathroom mirror… but I wanted to show you how it all came together!  Forgive the messy hair too… like I said, I was painting and didn’t think about the fact I could be taking photos of myself when I threw my hair up in a messy bun straight out of the shower in the morning!  ;) The earrings are super long, but I love how simple and elegant they look!  I also adore the little detail on the back of the necklace!  What do you think?

PS… Yay for Western WA finally getting some sun, I have a little tan now!  Two weeks ago this was not the case ;)
